Wonderland Part 1: Alice
It was cloudy day, grey and heavy with anticipation. Alice was meeting her friends in the magical world. Rabbit, Mad Hatter, and the White Queen, all showed up for the party. Enjoy!
It was cloudy day, grey and heavy with anticipation. Alice was meeting her friends in the magical world. Rabbit, Mad Hatter, and the White Queen, all showed up for the party. Enjoy!
The other day, I wanted to try to photograph the well known Perseids meteor shower, which usually occurs at the end of August. Unfortunately there were a lot of cloudy and rainy days, and I had a fear that I might miss it. Then one day, the skies cleared up, so I grabbed by gear, [...]
I love sunsets. Each one is so different from the previous one. This sunset was a spur of a moment, grab the camera and dash out the door. Few minutes later I was being eaten alive by blood thirsty mosquitos when I crouched in the field to grab these shots. Enjoy!
A few weeks ago, me and Randy Pond were asked by Scott to take his photos while he was working out at the gym. Scott was getting ready for the 2010 Bodybuilding National Championships. It was a short photo shoot, but a very successful one. Never shot in a gym before so I knew lighting [...]
So our Canon fest was going great, until we go interrupted by the arrival of an alien species. We later learned that these species, are affectionately called The Nikonians. To tell the truth The Nikonian wasn’t so bad, as a lot of people would have you believe. Yes they do speak a different language, and [...]
Here is Nina. Enjoy!
Continuing with my Canon Fest pictures. Here is Marriam. Enjoy!
As our Canon Fest progressed, we moved from downtown Edmonton, to the ever familiar Alberta Legislature grounds. Everyone was paired up with a model and went to take wonderful pictures. Everything was going very well until…. but that’s for the other post, but here is Elisha. Enjoy!
Canon Fest? Yes, a real Canon Fest. Well at least that what me and my two friends called it. Me, Randy Pond, Travis Forsyth and Jenn Townsend-Plant decided to create a a first in Edmonton, Canon Fest. Travis actually came all the way from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to join our little get together. Since we all [...]
Here is the sunset me and my friend went out to capture, at Elk Island National Park. Enjoy!
A few weeks ago, and good friend of mine and a vet went out to Elk Island National Park, to see if we can catch the sunset. We arrived at our favourite spot by Astotin Lake. I’ve photographed a lot of sunsets on that lake, and they are always different. Every one. One always meets [...]
Every photo shoot this size has to have some behind the scenes photos. Enjoy.
Here are more photos from the big photo outing from about a month ego. Enjoy.
Yes I’ve been slacking in the posting department. I sincerely apologize for the sporadic postings lately. My excuse is, that I went back to normal work, and being away from it for almost 2 months, makes it a little challenging to get back in the groove. I do have lots of photos to show you. [...]
On the way back home, after an awesome trip and really good time, we spotted this huge cloud formation on the horizon. I think it was the most interesting thing I have seen in a very long time. The clouds were changing their formation by the minute, and it was steadily growing. Luckily it passed [...]
Besides seeing a lot of local fauna and flora in the Banff National Park, you always meet the other type of fauna…. the tourists. On a nice day like this there were a lot of them. Which in a way is good, because it provides great shooting opportunities. I just wish I had some business [...]
I really enjoy photographing people. Specially when I can sit on the sidelines, and just observe. This is what happened on the weekend. While I was at the Legislature Grounds there was a wedding photo shoot going on. So I sat on the sidelines and observed the photographer, and from time to time I shot [...]
Now what would a good road trip be, with out some postcards. Postcards from the mountains. Enjoy.
Spent a very nice afternoon at the Legislature Grounds, with my family and a good friend. Kids had lots of fun in the open public wading pool, and me and my friend hunted people with our cameras. Legislative grounds are very popular wedding picture destination, and usually you can find at least a couple of [...]
One thing you see on the road trip is an abundance of flora, and if you are lucky you will see some fauna as well. We got lucky, as well. It was the first time I ever saw a bear in the Banff National Park, and it was a Grizzly. It looked young from the [...]
So a couple of weeks past few friends of mine and I decided to go for a little photo trip out to the mountains. Since if one wants to get to the mountains from our lovely Edmonton, it’s at least 4 hour drive, we decided to leave around 5am. So at around 4:30 we piled [...]
Just a quick update. Saw my cardiologist finally, after almost 3 months of trying to get an appointment. The good thing is my daily intake of medically flavoured skittles is down to 1/5 of what it used to be. The picture here shows my weekly intake of these things. I hate taking pills. Absolutely despise [...]
A few weeks ago, my very good friend Randy Pond asked me if I wanted to test my strength and go on a little photo shoot with him. I agreed, but was a little apprehensive if I could carry my equipment, or at least part of it. Randy arranged everything, the models the place to [...]
I wanted to see the difference between my Canon 17-40mm wide angle lens and the Canon 16-35mm lens. The 16-35mm is twice as expensive as the 17-40mm, probably because it’s a f2.8, and the 17-40mm is only f4.0-5.6. Numbers aside, testing it in the field produced very similar results. For landscape they are pretty much the same [...]
Funny thing just occurred to me. I take lots of photos, of everything, but hardly any of my own family. Maybe it’s because I see them all the time? I don’t know. So that’s why I put this compilation of photos, from a couple of our trips this summer. Yeah I know, my kids are [...]
I always like macro photography. Bugs are so fun when they are blow up out of proportion. Gives me a completely different perspective on the world. Yes I know these are not remotely macro photography. I did try it, and found it difficult at best. First, bugs do move, and they move fast. Second the [...]
As all good things come to an end, here is the last part of the pictures from the Photo Walk. Enjoy!
With out further ado, here is part 5 of the World Wide PhotoWalk in Edmonton. Enjoy!
So I finally got myself a proper bicycle. One that fits me. Since I learned to ride a bike at 4 years old, I fell in love with it. Never was into competitive or serious riding, just for myself. I used to spend hours on a bike when I was a little younger. Just riding [...]
It was a great day spent at the park. I definitely recommend a visit, and a stroll back in time. Enjoy.
The Jurassic Forest provides a lot of photo opportunities. The position of these huge creatures in the forest, between the trees, makes it for a more real experience. Here are some more shots from our trip. Enjoy.
We just got back from an amazing trip back in time. We visited a new park near Edmonton called the “Jurassic Forest” . It’s located about 15 min north of Edmonton, and it’s a 40 acre prehistoric preserve. It’s a wonderful place to visit. The dinosaurs are full size and they are set in the [...]
Even more shots from the World Wide Photowalk in Edmonton. Enjoy.
More shots from the World Wide Photowalk in Edmonton. Enjoy.
Here are more photos from the the Highland Gathering at Fort Edmonton park. Enjoy.
Continuation of photos from the World Wide PhotoWalk Edmonton. Enjoy.
Scott Kelby from NAPP organized another World Wide photowalk. We had 3 photo walks organized here in Edmonton. Since we were walking downtown with Taste of Edmonton, and a downtown market in full swing, I decided to try a little more hip shooting, and concentrate more on people. Here is part 1 of many part [...]
Fort Edmonton Highland Gathering, is a yearly event for my family. We stumbled upon it at one time by accident, and got hooked. No we are not Scottish, but watching bands practicing their instruments and watching big burly men throw telephone poles, makes for a very fun day. The best thing of course is haggis. [...]
During our visit to the market, we walked around the Whyte Ave, which I think is the only avenue in Edmonton that actually has any pedestrian traffic. It’s always jammed up with people. No surprise, when you have cafes, open style restaurants, bars, and vendors (mostly art) lining the avenue. Since I was hip shooting, [...]
The other day, I took my family to one the of the farmer markets. I thought it would be a good idea to test my strength by taking my Canon 5D with one lens. I took off the battery pack, and the only lens I took was a 100mm f2.8 macro. This is an old [...]
On our recent trips to the Fort Edmonton park, I managed to test my strength agains a Canon 5D Classic with a 70-200mm f2.8. Not the lightest piece to lug around, but it’s a such a wonderful camera to use. Again I was trying for candid shots, and the 70-200mm certainly helps with that. I [...]
Well the iPad is an absolutely amazing little device. Since the time in the hospital I’ve been using it to work, edit pictures, blog, play games…etc. Yes you saw that right, edit pictures. I have found this awesome application for the iPad called “Photo fx Ultra”. It can add all kinds of different effects to [...]
Yes, it’s been a long 2 months. Long and slow recovery, but everything is getting back to normal. I’ve been trying with different cameras, and finally a few days ago, I started with my old big cameras. I’ve been doing all kinds of photography, but mostly I was concentrating on candid shots. I have to [...]
Well it looks like the big operation will be tomorrow. This will be probably a last post for a while. I will try to keep updating my status via facebook. So I’m going leave the blog on a positive note. Should be back here in a bit.
I guess every hospital has it share of stories, scares, and ghosts. Walking the corridors today was specially fright full.
So as many of you know, I’ve stuck in a hospital for a week now. Why? Just some small problem with a screwed up heart valve, that an operation will fix up in a jiffy . This means of course that I don’t have my normal gear here with me, so I have to use [...]
It was a sad day today. We had to say goodbye to our kitty. He’s been with us for the last 14 years. We named him Yoda, because when he was a young kitty his ears were almost twice the size of his head, and he looked like Yoda from StarWars. We picked him from [...]
Sorry to disappoint, but this is the last part in the boudoir series from last weekend. Enjoy.
Here is the continuation from a boudoir shoot from last weekend. Enjoy.
This past weekend ended with a huge surprise. My wife’s friend decided that she wanted a quick boudoir session done for her husband’s birthday. Luckily I had all my gear charged and ready to go…. quick call to another friend to watch the kiddies for a couple of hours and off we went. It was [...]
I decided to post this photo in celebration of spring. It’s an old one. This was shot for a challenge called “Grass”. I could not think of anything to make grass interesting subject, and then this idea popped into my head. Even though this was taken almost 2 years ago, I still remember it vividly, [...]
I had discussion over the last couple of days about cameras. Which is better a DSLR or a Point & Shoot. Many will say “a DSLR of course”, but my opinion is a little of this and a little of that. To make it plain and simple, use the camera that will suit your purpose. [...]
Continuing the little road trip post from yesterday, here my favourite pictures from the trip.
Plans… planning outside activities during Alberta spring, is like throwing a dart at a dart board, blindfolded and standing on your head. That’s precisely what happened last week. Randy Pond and me were planning and interesting shoot last friday with 3 models. During that week the weather has been gorgeous, with lots of sun and [...]
Here is continuation of my favourite photographs from Kristina and Landon’s engagement photo shoot. Enjoy!
A month ago I had a pleasure of photographing Kristina and Landon. We met up in downtown Edmonton, and here are my favourites shots from this engagement photo shoot. Enjoy!
The new Art Gallery of Alberta is certainly very photogenic building. Specially when sunlight seeps thought the many windows creating wonderful shadows inside. Enjoy.
A new building and a new name. Art Gallery of Alberta used to be called Edmonton Art Gallery. The new building was designed by Randall Stout Architects and it finally opened in January of 2010. It is a very strange building, and definitely a sight to behold. There are divided opinion on the building, personally [...]
I have managed to move my entire blog to another hosting location. I have chosen InMotion Hosting for several reasons, and so far I’m pretty happy the performance of the server, and particularly their technical support. I was able to talk to a tech at 3:00am in the morning to resolve some issues with the [...]
Just a quick note. I’ll be moving servers in the next couple of days, so the site might be coming off and on. Please bear with me, as this is proving a little more difficult than it sounded. Thank you!
Bianca definitely has a lot of energy. As you can see from these photos. Enjoy.
I think this time I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.
A coworker gave a great tip where I could find some bald eagles. It’s an old gravel pit, which right now is a little lake. He showed me some pictures that he was able to take with his little point and shoot camera, and there were 5 0r 6 bald eagles just sitting calmly in [...]
A friend of mine asked me why do I use Adobe Lightroom, when there is Adobe Bridge that ships with Photoshop, and has a lot of the same functionality. There are a lot of reasons why people use Lightroom. For me the biggest plus in Lightroom is portability. To understand this a little more I’ll [...]
Shooting with the Canon 1D Classic is a pleasure. I really like how it feels in my hand. It’s big, heavy and solid. The shutter button compared to my 5D is a little sensitive and I found myself firing shots by mistake. Also adding a 70-200mm lens with a canon 2x extender adds a lot [...]
So a couple of days ago, a package arrived at my door…. post marked from Australia. I almost cut myself opening it. My hands were trembling a little when I dug into the styrofoam. What I uncovered was a beautiful black Canon 1D. Yep no other designations, no Mark this or Mark that… none of [...]
Here are some more photos of Kim. Enjoy.
Out of all the models that came out to shoot with me and Randy, Kim had a largest wardrobe. I think she changed about five times. With every change she was almost a totally different person. It was a lot of fun shooting with Kim. Proof is in the pictures. Enjoy.
Here is part 2 from Dan’s photo shoot. Enjoy.
Continuing the theme, here is Dan. I have to say Dan was very cool to work with. Laid back attitude, and easy going personality, makes it really easy to get good shots of him. It was a lot of fun working with Dan, and here are some examples. Enjoy.
Dan is the first male model I’ve ever shot. I heard all kinds of different stories about male models, and Dan was a complete opposite to all of them. Really great to work with, easy going, and just a cool dude. I gotta get me those aviators!
Here are more pictures of lovely Medina. Enjoy!
Last Saturday I was part of crazy photo shoot. Me and my good friend Randy Pond, wanted to organize a little shoot together… He asked one model to come out, then I asked a couple more, and soon enough it spiralled out into a full blown event with 5 models, and it lasted 5 hours. [...]
Nothing says “Alberta Girl” more then doing a photo shoot in of Candace in a bikini in +3C temperatures, and windy. She really wanted to do this shoot, and the previous day the weather was quite nice for late March. Unfortunately the day we planned this shoot, the weather turned for the worse. Candace braved [...]
It’s almost spring here in Edmonton,AB. The weather has be absolutely fabulous for the last few weeks. The snow is almost completely gone, and our tulips are already poking slowly out of the ground. I’m not counting my blessings just yet. Mother Nature is very capricious this time of year, and I would not be [...]
I found this great little app for the iPhone, called Hipstamatic. It’s a combination of old film, lenses, and flashes from old manual cameras. It can create some very interesting effects with your photos. I’ve been playing around with it for a bit, and I really like it. You can pair up different lenses and [...]
After “Summer in Winter” idea was exhausted, we moved to the main road of the Elk Island park, to shoot a hitchhiker idea. Always wanted to use one of these big cases, and this was a good opportunity. Good thing was that the main road in Elk Island National park, this early in the morning, [...]
I came up with this crazy idea on a spur of a moment. I’m always thinking about weird things, things that don’t belong, and this summer in winter wasn’t any different. I just needed someone to do it with. It’s not an easy task, to be dressed in summer clothes when it’s -5C outside, but [...]
One thing I love about small airplanes, is that they usually fly much lower, than commercial airlines. Also they usually have much bigger windows to take pictures through. Morning flights are usually most spectacular. You can watch an amazing sunrise, and the way the shadows move along the earth. If you ever have a chance [...]
I thought what better way to finish the series of posts from California and Disneyland, then with a lovely sunset at Santa Monica beach. As typical to any sunset at the beach, lots of people came out. There were even some guys that had tripods, huge backpacks and set themselves up right by the ocean. [...]
Here are some shots taken at Disneyland, that don’t really fit into any category. Just walking around the park and snapping pictures. Enjoy.
I can consider myself lucky. I have met one of my favourite photographers, whom I’ve blog stalking for a while now. It’s none other than Christa Meola. In my opinion she has an amazing way of capturing life as it passes. It was an awesome meeting, although I was very nervous, almost like a student [...]
I love observing people. Specially when they do not know they are being observed. Yes, it’s a little voyeuristic of me, but people are fun in their natural environment. No posing, no artificial smiles, just pure humanity at it’s best. Most of these shots were done during our outing in Santa Monica, and some at [...]
What would a vacation in California be, without seeing the ocean, and sampling of at least one beach? I thought exactly the same thing…. so off we went to Santa Monica. Yes there are closer beaches to Anaheim, but Santa Monica it was for a few reasons. The main reason, was that we were meeting [...]
Here is part 2 of our Legoland California adventures. Enjoy.
If you never been to Legoland California, then I definitely recommend it. My kids actually liked it a lot better than Disneyland, even though it’s a lot smaller. It is more interactive, and the area where the major US cities are recreated out of legos, is spectacular. Here is the first part of Legoland. Enjoy.
Here is part two, from the photo shoot with Ashley and Danni. Enjoy.
Back from vacation, and playing catch up at work. I got tons of pictures to go through, and hopefully some will be blog worthy. This will take some time though. So to keep the blog rolling here are some shots from an interesting photo shoot setup by my good friend Randy Pond (a very cool [...]
I was quite fortunate today, because right in front of our hotel there was a traditional East Indian wedding. It was quite interesting, since I never really saw one. Good thing I had a long lens and was able to get a few good shots right from our 15th floor balcony. Then I run down [...]
Spent a whole day outside yesterday. Huge fun, but a little tiring. Kids just fell on their bed and were gone in less than 5 min. Wow. This gave me some time to go through some of the photos. Most were family snapshots, and not really ready for posting on the blog. Some are made [...]
I know we are on vacation, but I haven’t gotten anything interesting in photos to post, yet. So I’ll just start using the free time to post all the stuff that was supposed to be posted a long time ago. Starting with last shots from my trip to Elk Island National Park. Enjoy.
So our vacation has started. It’s promising to be a great time. Lots of fun and one meeting that will be most exciting (for me that is). I will post on that later though. Today I finally was able to test a little camera I got for my older child a while back. It’s [...]
Another set taken at Elk Island National Park. It was quite a bit warmer that day, but surprisingly a early morning fog was forming. I never saw that. Usually this happens when it’s extremely cold. I’m not complaining, because it made for some interesting scenery. Enjoy.
Sheets, skin, and laughter…. magical things really…. but where did the pillows go? Enjoy!
I think these are self explanatory, so please enjoy!
There is nothing that I can add to this series of photos…. just Enjoy!
So just in time for new year resolutions, that no one ever keeps, I decided to go back in time. A long way back in time. I’m talking about 15 years at least. This is how long I had this Russian relic, this wonder of Russian technology and optics, this marvel of weight and noise. [...]
Elk Island National park, provides some spectacular vistas, every season. I think winter is my favourite time to visit though. The silence and peace, under a thick blanket of snow is so relaxing. Enjoy!
A shirt, a tie, and a hat can makes things look so interesting. Don’t you think? Enjoy!
NHL Hockey is in full swing. Being in Edmonton one is bound to be swept up with all the commotion of cheering for the home team, the Edmonton Oilers. GO OILERS GO!
This weekend was a perfect time to visit my favorite park. Those of you who have been reading this blog, know that this is Elk Island National Park. I left home early, around 7am. I was hoping to get there before the sunrise. Fresh few centimeters of snow fell during the night, and the park [...]
This really was a great session. Here are last shots from this series. Don’t fret though there will be more Corri, soon. Enjoy!
During this photo session with Corri, I realized how important it is to have an assistant. I have asked a good friend of mine Jenn, whom I shot with before, if she would like to help. She accepted without hesitation. It turned out that this was the best idea I had for this session. It [...]
I have been planning a boudoir session for a long time. I was always fascinated by real pros like Christa Meola, and Cathy Empy. I wanted to find out if can follow what they have done, and maybe add something of my own. Everything looks great in theory. In actuality it’s a little different. At [...]
It’s that time of year again. The weekend in Edmonton was very very cold. Temperatures reaching -40C with windchill, were a perfect excuse to stay indoors watch a movie or two, play some games with the kids, and just enjoy the warmth and the fragrance of a fresh Christmas tree. Here are some shots taken [...]
This picture is also from the archives. Yes some may say it’s too dark etc., but I like it that way. I like the shadows, and the contrast. I like the mystery behind them. So that is my explanation. It could be that I badly exposed the original and had to do something to save [...]
Since the temperatures in Edmonton dropped to well below -20C, it was a perfect time to do a little house cleaning in Adobe Lightroom. I still have to figure out the best workflow for myself, as it is a challenge to find things in my over blown Lightroom catalog. So far I have decided to [...]
Here is continuation of the post from yesterday. Enjoy!
I met up with Nyla last weekend for an impromptu photo shoot in Edmonton downtown. Although it was sunny, the winds were chilling, so we decided to find someplace inside for the shoot. I guess it’s winter in Edmonton. After a short walk we decided to duck into the City Hall. There is practically no [...]
This is Nyla Stormy. I met her through Model Mayhem, and we did a couple of shoots before. This was a quick 30 min shoot at a local book store. There weren’t a lot of people around which was good. Surprisingly the staff did not bother us at all, maybe because I did not use [...]
So after a short lived break of blue, the gray heavy clouds rolled back in. The world turned black and white again, and it was time to bid adieu. Time to take final frames, and head for home. It was a wonderful trip. A trip that we will have to repeat again…
Because of the strong winds, the sun finally came out. Basking the splendour of the scenery in warm colours. The forests became green, the sky blue, and the snow sparkling virgin white. The ragged peaks raised high with parting clouds looked over their domain. It did not last though, as the clouds returned, and the [...]
This set was taken on our last trip to Jasper National Park. Personally I really like the cold emptiness of these landscapes. Snow covered peaks, frozen lakes and rivers. The silence of it all. Enjoy.
Last weekend we did something unexpected. We were spontaneous. Back in the day, before our wonderful boys arrived we would take day trips, just for the fun of it. Jump in the car and go. After, our life got a little more planned, and those day trips were put to the side. As our boys [...]
Here are the last photos from out trip to NWT. Enjoy.
I was meaning to do this since we got back from our trip to Yellowknife NWT. I took these photos of a very special friend of ours, while she wasn’t really paying attention. I’m a sneaky bugger . I thought of using them individually, but together they somehow tell a little story. So here it [...]
It’s been a while since I posted pictures from our trip to North West Territories. Going through my library on the weekend I found some that for some reason did not get posted. I don’t know how I missed them, so here they are. Enjoy!
Yesterday evening I glimpsed this big orange thing in the eastern sky. Of course by the time I got my tripod, and fitted my long zoom lens on the camera, and set everything up, it wasn’t as orange or as big anymore. Still I was able to capture this shot of our natural satellite. Maybe [...]
I have always been fascinated with fire. The dance of the flame as it consumes it’s fuel, poetry in motion. Tonight we decided to have dinner or supper as some may prefer, outside in our yard. The weather was quite nice, albeit a little chilly, but a nice roaring fire soon fixed that. What a [...]
Continuing from the previous post, the above photo shows the amount of people that were at the Ukrainian Village that day. Usually it would be just a picture of a sign….. and no one else. The following series of pictures were taken at the Ukrainian Village, but this time I decided to leave the colour [...]
It was a lovely sunny, albeit cool and windy day. Few months ago, my good friend Art and me decided to visit a place where time stands still. It is a place of memories. Memories of how people lived and worked and loved this land. Then you realize that, this was only about 100 years ago. [...]
Finally Sebastian got his wish, and was able to put his costume to good use. It was fairly warm night for trick or treating, and both kids were very excited. This year though, I decided not to take my camera with me, just dress up and enjoy the time with the kids. It was fun. [...]
My youngest decides that a week before Halloween he’s ready to go trick or treating. It was very hard to convince him that it wasn’t time yet. The concept of a week was an abstract notion to him, and it would usually last anywhere from 5 min to 15 min, before he would start asking [...]
A few weeks ago I had a photo session with one of my coworkers. It was a short session, and I’ll be posting more shots from it, a little later, but today I have two that I was playing with last night. I wanted them to be a little dark, and brooding….. and here they [...]
Here are more shots from the trip to Elk Island. I’ve seen many sunsets, but very rarely I’ve seen one with such vivid colours. Enjoy!
These shots are from a few months ago. It was a hazy kind of day, but not a lot of cloud. So I wasn’t hoping for a great looking sunset. Was I wrong. Here is part 1 from that little outing. Enjoy!
I wanted to try this type of photo for a long while, just never got around to it. So last night I decided to force my wife to drive, and I sat in the back seat with my camera wedged between the seats. The camera has to be very secure in the car, because the [...]
Early in the morning, waiting in drive-through lane for coffee. All I had was my iphone, and here is what come out. Not a lot of editing was done, and all was done using the Photoshop Mobile application on the iphone. A little crop, convert to black and white, and that’s it. Just added a [...]
Here are more summer photos from Kristina and Landon’s photo shoot. Enjoy!
During the summer months I had an honour to be part of Kristina and Landon’s engagement photo shoot. I have been invited to their wedding next year, which is going to be my second photo wedding. Yes I’m a little scared, and hope that I can pull it off with out a hitch. These shots are [...]
As the sun rose above the horizon, the Wabamum lake came to life, as well as the town. Delivery trucks, power boats, and people started milling around, as if the appearance of the sun was a signal to start life anew. I knew it was time to snap a few more shots and call it [...]
This absolutely wonderful morning, turned into dazzling real fast. As I was enjoying the quiet, I felt the early warmth of the first sun rays on my back. I looked up and saw the high clouds blushing at their reflection in the still waters below. The fog was swirling on the distant shore, and the [...]
So on my recent ad-hoc trip to Wabamum lake I started of with some light painting. In actuality it was more camera painting, because, being the silly person as I am, I have totally forgot my tripod. Instead of sitting in my car, having a couple of hours before the sunrise, and kicking myself, I [...]
Here are some more shots from our trip to the Northwest Territories. The picture above is of a new bridge being built on the Mackenzie River. Since the beginning crossing the river was done either via the ferry in the summer, or via the ice bridge in winter. This has always cause some problems specially [...]
Saturday morning, and for some reason I could not sleep. So instead of tossing and turning I got dressed and went for a little drive to Wabamum Lake. Well 80km one way is a little drive in Alberta standards. I had no plans for a shoot… just something ad hoc. Since it was still dark [...]
Yep, we even had a band on the lovely sailing boat. There is nothing better than sailing and having two very talented musician provide a perfect balance of guitars and voice to a perfect day. Huge thanks to Amanda and Melvin for making an already perfect day, even more perfect. Of course huge thanks to [...]
Here are some more shots from our sailing trip on the Great Slave Lake. Enjoy!
Now what would a sailing adventure be without great people. So I present to you a few of the portraits/candids I managed to snag along the way. I have to say that this is one of those trips I will remember for ever. Enjoy.
During our recent visit to Northwest Territories, we had an amazing opportunity to go sailing. Personally I’ve never been sailing, but always dreamed of it. I’ve never been a fan of speed boats, and the older I get, the more annoying it is to have to listen to the noise of the engine. So when [...]
Fall is here. This starts a great season in colours, and beauty, as the world prepares itself for the long winter ahead. At least here in Edmonton. Our apple trees were, again, very fruitful this year. We have so much of all kinds of different apple preserves from the years before, that this year we [...]
Street photography, for me, is not an easy task. I’m afraid of people. That’s why having a long lens makes a big difference. With the 100-400mm zoom I can take shots from across the street, and people are none the wiser what I’m pointing my camera at. Too bad the lens is white, and it [...]
On the way to Northwest Territories, one has to stop at the Twin Falls Gorge Park. It is situated not far from the Alberta / NWT border, and it is a site to behold. Alexandra Falls is the first set of falls on the Hay River. It is the largest of the two falls, measuring [...]
These photos were taken on one of those breath taking Alberta mornings on the way to work. Unfortunately I did not have my usual gear with me so I had to revert to my point & shoot camera again. I really like the fact that the Panasonic DMC-FZ28, I have, has a nice wide angle lens. [...]
This was taking on my way to work one of these strange mornings that we had this summer. Nights were cool and days very warm, leading to these foggy conditions. I usually arrive at work around 6:30-7:00 in the morning. This allows for some of the great sunrise photo opportunities. Luckily that day I had [...]
On our recent trip to Yellowknife, I had a great opportunity to take my good friend’s BMW M3 for a spin. I must say, that it was an amazing experience. I was able to snag some shots of it, but I think these came out the best. To me they show the hidden dark power [...]
Here are some photos from the trip we took to Yellowknife NWT. These were taken close to the city of Peace River. I remembered this shed from a long ago, and always wanted to photograph it. My chance came. It was beautiful sunny day, with golden fields and blue skies. Perfect moment. The scenery around [...]
This is very exciting news for me. I can now officially say that I have been published! We did this photo shoot for a Newport News VA, BMX magazine called Slammed. A very good friend of mine, Tomek Wala, came out as well to help out with the photo shoot. It was great, and we [...]
This is part 5 of Jenn’s photo shoot from a while back. Enjoy!
You might be wondering why I haven’t been posting anything lately…. or you might not. I will tell you anyway, I mean this is my blog, so I can do whatever I want right? Two weeks ago, we decided to drive up north to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. We have a lot of very good friends [...]
As all good things come to an end, so does this long running series must as well. It was an awesome event, and I will definitely walk again next year. Thank you Jason for doing this. Now for the last part… Enjoy!

Here is part 4 of the Edmonton photowalk. Enjoy!
Here is part 3 of the Worldwide Edmonton photowalk. Enjoy!
Here is part 2 from yesterdays WorldWide Photowalk. Enjoy!
Today was the time for the World Wide photowalk. I have joined one of the 3 Edmonton groups, and it was fantastic. I finally finished editing the best of the shots. So today I’m starting part 1 of the series. Enjoy!
Yesterday was a perfect day for blowing bubbles in Edmonton. Hardly any wind, nice and warm. A perfect summer day. Face it, does not matter ho old I am, I’m always mesmerized with the slowly floating, color swirling, gentle, fragile, soap bubbles. Kids were having a hoot running around the yard popping them, so I [...]
Took this shot while on the walk around Edmonton downtown. You can always wonder where these stairs are leading to. Enjoy!
I always wanted to try out street photography. I’ve seen some great street photos, portraits, situations, but I was always too scared. I’m shy by nature, and really it took at lot out of me to snap these photos. About a week ago, my fried and I decided to go for a little evening walk [...]
The weather for the last few days was very rainy, dark and gloomy. Tonight the clouds started to break up, still giving isolated showers, and we even got a tornado watch over the city of Edmonton. I have decided to drive out a little and see if I can capture the drama of the clouds [...]
I’ve been neglecting my blog, my twitter, and pictures. Well I’ve been taking a lot of pictures, just finding the time to through them, and edit the select few that are worth keeping, is a problem. I can’t complain though, being busy at work, and having fun with the family at home makes up for [...]
Continuation of the photo shoot with Jennifer. Enjoy!
As all good things that come to an end, this is the last part from the photo shoot with Ashley. I’m planning to do some more photos with her, once we find a compatible time. So, enjoy!
This evening the clouds were gathering very nicely, forecasting a spectacular sunset. I decided to go out for a quick trip around the country side. By the time the kids went to bed, and I finally left the house, there were no clouds what so ever. Still determined to get some shots I jumped in [...]
Here are last 3 photos from the latest photo shoot with Scott. Enjoy!
A few more shot from our last trip into Alberta’s past via an authentic steam train. Amazing trip. Enjoy.
Here is part 3 from the photo shoot with Jenn. Enjoy!.
I had a great opportunity to be semi assistant on a photo shoot with Randy Pond. He was shooting a great local bodybuilder, Scott. The shoot went great, and I did learn a few things about body building. The complexity and science that goes into this is mind boggling. I did manage to get a [...]
Just got back from an amazing show. The Northern Pikes came to Edmonton. This band has been around since circa 1984. One of my favorite bands. I have all their records! They have a special place in my heart, but I will not go on blubbering here. Needless to say it they still got the [...]
It was an awesome weekend. Specially Sunday. We got up early in the morning at 6am got the kids dressed, packed some snacks and off we go, destination Stettler Alberta. We decided to go on the Alberta Prairie Railway Excursion. It’s a great little getaway for families, and not only. It is an hour long [...]

Last Saturday I had a great privilege to work with Jenn again. She brings so much life and excitement into these photo shoots, that the hours just slip away. The whole idea behind it was to shoot a child’s bike with training wheels and an adult in full motorcycle outfit on that bike. Well, that [...]
Here is part 4 from Nyla’s photo shoot. Enjoy! Canon 5D, ISO 200, 1/200 sec, f3.5, 58mm
It was a busy weekend. I had two photo shoots which went amazingly well, besides the part where I damaged my shoot through umbrella. Accidents happen. This series is from a sunday photo shoot with Ashley. She was really cool to work with. I just managed to finish off some photos from Sunday, so I’m [...]
It’s be very busy the last couple of days. It looks like I’ll be busy for several more. Had 2 photo shoots this past weekend, and both of them went stunningly. I did manage to break my new shoot through umbrella. In any case, while I work on the new photos, and it seems there [...]
Here is part 2 of Nyla’s photo shoot. Canon 5D, ISO 100, 1/200 sec, f2.8, 70mm
Last week I had a photo shoot with an amazing Nyla Stormy. We met up with at Alberta Museum. I thought it will be a busy place since it was a long weekend. To my surprise the place was deserted. This was good, since we didn’t have chase people away. It was a lot of [...]
I was driving again today and found this interesting sight. I never knew bees were kept in old metal drums. There were hives near by, but most activity was going on around the green metal drum. I did not dare to come closer, so I put on my 2x extender with my 100-400mm lens. It’s [...]
A little collection of recent images taken during driving around this beautiful province. Yeah I know it supposed to be spring, but all this talk about global warming made mother nature quite shy. So she’s being trying hard to prove that none of that is true, specially here in Edmonton Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 50, [...]
Even though today was a cold cold morning of -4C, the spring in Edmonton Alberta is here. So today’s post is about birds. Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 50, 1/100 sec, f/5.6, 400mm
It was a very busy weekend, and I wasn’t able to post anything. So today for your enjoyment here is Part 4 of Nikki’s photo shoot. I’m afraid this is the last part, but I’m sure Nikki will be back. So enjoy! Canon 5D, ISO 50, 1/80 sec, f/2.8, 70mm
More of Nikki! Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 50, 1/125 sec, f/3.2, 52mm
Here is part 2 of from the photo shoot with Nikki. Enjoy! Canon 5D, ISO 50, 1/200 sec, f/4, 17mm
I’ve decided to change things a little. I know everyone is waiting impatiently for Nikki’s Part 2 , which is in the works. So in the mean time here are some real textures from the land of oil, which is Fort McMurray. Enjoy! I promise, Nikki is coming back
It was an awesome Monday. I got to shoot with my new friend Randy, an amazing photographer. He managed to get Nikki to come out and pose for us. Randy brought one of his Alien Bee strobes with a portable battery. It is an amazing piece of equipment. I will have to get me one [...]
This is the last part of Jenn’s studio shoot from last week. Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 50, 1/160 sec, f/2.8, 60mm
I have ordered a new set of Cactus Wireless flash triggers for a friend, and they arrived today. These are new version of the ones I ordered not too long ago. I must say that the improvement in build quality is very apparent. I wanted to test them to see how they compared to the [...]
Part four of Jenn’s studio shoot. Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 50, 1/160 sec, f/2.8, 45mm
Another update of Jenn’s studio shoot from last weekend. This time we have a lovely Russian navy hat. Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 50, 1/160 sec, f/2.8, 51mm
It’s been a very busy week at work. I had to take a trip to Fort McMurray to fix one of our satellite internet installations. I could not take my normal gear, so I took along my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28. It was going to be a beautiful sunny day, and I was hoping to get [...]
This is a second batch of shots from Jenn’s studio shoot. There is still more to come… Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 50, 1/160 sec, f/2.8, 48mm
I had another privilege to work with Jenn. This time it was in my little studio. We had a good few hours of fun. I think she did a great job on her make up, which shows another talent. This three shots are just the beginning. I have “tons” from this shoot, which I will [...]
This is the last update of the shots with Corri from last Sunday. Enjoy! Canon 5D, ISO 100, 1/160 sec, f/1.8, 50mm
I’m a little disappointed. I was hoping for a little better results, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. Canon 5D, ISO 50, 1/160 sec, f/4.5, 17mm A friend of mine and me went out to check out two abandoned farms he found during his travels. The first one was in the middle of [...]
At the finish of the photo shoot with Jenn last Saturday at Elk Island National Park, we moved down to the beach to have a look at the sunset. I tried taking some shot, but the sun quickly disappeared behind the clouds on the horizon, and the sunset wasn’t as spectacular as it can be. [...]
Last couple of shots from last Saturday photo shoot with Jenn. Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 100, 1/125 sec, f/5.6, 210mm
While doing the photo shoot with Jenn last Saturday, my kids pointed this little guy to me. I crept slowly not to spook him, but he seemed fairly tame. Managed to snap a few shots of him (or her for that matter), and this is the best one. Yes the spring is finally here… Enjoy. [...]
This is just another idea from the photo shoot I did with Corri last Sunday. Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 100, 1/200 sec, f/5.0, 45mm
This is the continuation of the photos I took of Jenn last Saturday. We did try a few different colored lights. I have to get more colors. But for now enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 100, 1/200 sec, f/5.6, 275mm
As I mentioned in the last post, last weekend was very busy. I’ve decided to mix things up a little. Today I’m presenting a few shots from the Sunday photo shoot with Corri. That was a fun shoot to say the least. I have to say, that Corri is very dedicated! She spend half of [...]
What a busy weekend. Lots of yard work, since spring is slowly waking up. This is not a post about yard work, no matter how interesting it is. This is another post about photos. Yes, this weekend was abundant with them. First on Saturday we had a big photo shoot with Jenn, then on Sunday [...]
It was a beautiful saturday afternoon. Finally some spring weather in this winter ridden city. Avril is an aspiring model I met through ModelMayhem website. We met up at the Legislature grounds in the late afternoon, because I was hoping that by that time we will have some clouds in the sky to filter out [...]
So the sunday photo shoot didn’t come into fruition. It’s a perfect time of the year to get sick, and unfortunately my model did just that. Too bad, I do hope she feels better. That means I couldn’t try out my new lens….. or could I. All the photos that I take, I hardly take [...]
Last part of this series. Hope you enjoyed it, as much as we had shooting it. Even though my lights did not cooperate fully. I have to say that Jenn and Dustin are really great to work with, and my thanks to you guys for letting me do this. Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 250, 1/200 [...]
Continuing the series with Jenn. This time a little more color perhaps. Again same staircase as in Part 1, but I thought I might try the light from a different angle. Actually the IR sensors on the flashes were very difficult that day, so had to position the flash as best as I could for [...]
This is the next part of the Angel. I had some problems with the flash taking these. In one shot the strobe shot at more than full power, then next it would barely blink. I still don’t understand why this happened, only that it created two interesting effect. The first is my favorite. Enjoy. Canon [...]
Second part of the Jenn photo shoot. I guess the black angel strikes again. Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 400, 1/80 sec, f/2.8, 46mm
Last saturday I had a great photo shoot with Jenn and Dustin. I decided to break the posts into parts, because we did a few different things, that don’t really fit together into a cohesive timeline. This is the first part. These were just light tests, and by accident turned out quite nice. The light [...]
Last couple of weekend we were enjoying the lovely warmer weather on the slope of a very nice sledding hill. Usually it was quite empty, but today, since the weather was perfect, +2C, sunny, blue skies, there were a few other people around. I guess the group of younger adults didn’t know the hill so [...]
These are some more interesting out takes that I took during out Tuff photo shoot. I kept them in the same spirit as the other ones. Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 400, 1/125 sec, f/6.3, 57mm
This is the continuation of the portrait series with Tuff. Next post I will do show some out-takes from the whole photo shoot. One might ask, why are they in black and white. Well the colors were not that great, lots or browns and blacks, and after converting a first couple to black and white [...]
I’ve been asked by a good friend of mine to help him create some portraits of his dog Tuff. I will not go into details why, because it’s not a happy story. Nonetheless we spent good 4 hours setting up different lights, different positions, and just plainly experimenting. We were setting up only off camera [...]
This shot came into light more as an accident then anything else. Our new fridge at work, has this cool ice/water dispencer, and when the lights are out, it looks like something out of a science fiction movie. I thought this would be a interesting “location” for some kind of a product shot. Essentially I [...]
This is was more of a test shot, then a finished project. I decided to shoot my kids in a board room meeting. It would have been better to have the multiple person, wearing different outfits for each shot, and also having some drinks or papers on the table. Again this was just a test [...]
I found this old sticker in an old junk drawer. I figured it might look interesting on Sebastian. This was a very simple setup. Just a flash light and a blank wall. Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 800, 1/125 sec, f/2.8, 70mm
Although it is March, winter here in Edmonton doesn’t show any signs of leaving. It was -20C on the weekend, with a nice 40-60km/h wind. I did go out to see if I can get some cool shots snow drifts. After almost getting stuck a couple of times, I gave up the adventure, and concentrated [...]
My brother in law wanted to have a nice holiday at the beginning of this year. So he and his wife decided to visit Egypt and the pyramids. Apparently they had a blast. From the pictures that he sent to me one struck me with a little cry for help. I asked his permission if [...]
This saturday I decided to take my boys to the annual Edmonton Car Show. I took my camera just in case there might be some interesting photo opportunities. Well we arrived about an hour after the opening, and to my surprise it was almost full. So no photo opportunities what so ever. Boys had a [...]
I figured I will try some portraiture with my youngest son Sebastian. I read an interesting passage today. The best way to start with photography, is to start photographing your loved ones. Either you will get clobbered, or you might get some interesting shots like these. These were taken with on camera flash and a [...]
I always knew there was something about winter I liked. During my last picture trip to Elk Island, I found the frost on the trees was quite spectacular. I grabbed my macro lens, and tried a couple of shots. The macro lens is an older version of the one that you can buy today, and [...]
Today was another perfect frozen Alberta morning. The temperatures started to drop early in the week, and this morning we were sitting at a nice crisp -25C. So what does a crazy Polak do? Calls up his friend, the Vet, and head out at 6:00 in the morning to the Elk Island National Park. This [...]
Today started off with a nice thick fog in the morning. Once I managed to get to work, the fog became a lot thicker. The lamps at work were creating really interesting effects. Panasonic DMC-FZ28, ISO 400, 1/4 sec, f/3.6, 23mm Later during the day the fog lifted, but it started to snow. The typical [...]
This is what I have been eluding to in the previous post. Dark and a little different, maybe. Big thanks again to Corri Riczu for being a great model. Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 100, 1/125 sec, f/5.6, 30mm Canon 5D, ISO 100, 1/125 sec, f/5.6, 45mm Canon 5D, ISO 100, 1/125 sec, f/8, 23mm Canon [...]
I had this Russian theme going around my head for a while now. I couldn’t realize it, because of the missing props. By complete chance I happened on a great internet store called Soviet Power. This gem of a site has any thing one ever wanted from the by gone era of old Soviet Union. [...]
I was playing with a couple of umbrellas and changing the intensity of the strobes. Not the greatest shot, but I like it. I like the half lit faces, the little mystery. Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 250, 1/125 sec, f/13, 70mm
I was playing around with an off camera flash to see how the shadows would work on an uneven rock wall. I think it came out interesting. Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 200, 1/200 sec, f/8, 34mm Canon 5D, ISO 200, 1/200 sec, f/8, 45mm
Couple of days ago, I discovered by accident, that there is a town near Edmonton, called Krakow. Now Krakow is one of the oldest cities in Poland, so normally I decided to visit this town here in Alberta. I left early, around 6:00 am, to be there around sunrise. It was cold this morning, around [...]
These were taken close to my home, early on a cold November morning. I have to thank Jenn, for being my angel, and my kids for actually wanting to do this. I had this idea for a long time. Only recently I made steps to actually put it into pictures. This is just a start. [...]
These were taken really with out thinking… this is my youngest, Sebastian. He was painting on his laptop, and I thought his facial expressions were priceless. Then again I am kind of biased in this department. No flash was used, just high iso, and steady hands Enjoy! Canon 5D, ISO 500, 1/30 sec, f/2.8, 50mm [...]
I thought that with the new year I will have some new pictures to show…. alas not yet. So keeping up with tradition, I will be going through some of the older, but as of yet, “unpublished” photos from last year. I hope you will forgive me. Also having -20C to -30C weather for all [...]
I thought that with the new year I will have some new pictures to show…. alas not yet. So keeping up with tradition, I will be going through some of the older, but as of yet, “unpublished” photos from last year. I hope you will forgive me. Also having -20C to -30C weather for all [...]
Another quirky photo. Yes this one was taken for a challenge over at DPChallenge. Artur and I went out to his favorite field to shoot for the challenge. Came out with a few interesting shots, but I thought this was the best of the bunch, and worthy of a mention on these pages. I like [...]
Just trying a night shot with the Cokin starburst filter. Shot from a bridge over a busy highway. Out in the distance the oil refineries were burning off some excess, I believe, that’s why the nice big starburst. Enjoy. Canon 5D, ISO 50, 5 sec, f/5.6, 32mm
I had this idea for a while now. Wanted to capture different emotions while playing video games. Big thanks to my brother and my nephew for being great models for this series. This was shot with one off camera flash through a diffusing umbrella, then converted to b&w in Photoshop. Enjoy! Canon 5D, ISO [...]
This series of photos were taken a week before my trip to Spain. I took Artur to Devil’s Lake. It was a beautiful autumn day, and the morning mists were in full strength coming from the lake. We spent good 3 hours just around the lake. It was definitely a good trip. Some of these [...]
Took this photo, at my brother’s house in Calgary. They wanted to do something different, something fun. So we came up with this idea. I think it came out quite interesting to say the least. In their defense, they are quite well adjusted, normal people. Canon 5D, ISO 200, 1/200 sec, f/8, 28mm
I have to say that this was the most amazing week. I found two great people, namely Sandra and Chris, that I’m really honored to call friends. The point that they have allowed me to stay with them, eat their food, and endured my company for a whole week is simply astounding This is a [...]
After a relaxing day spent in Almerimar(almerimarlife.com), Chris and I went to Almeria. This is one of the larger cities on the southern coast of Spain. It is a very old port city, as it was founded around 955. Took as a little time to find a parking spot, which is quite normal in any [...]
After the excitement of the previous two days, one would think that it was a boring day. I must disagree. Finally had a chance to actually go to the beach. Mind you, not to swim. It was quite windy, and finally I got to see that the sea actually had some waves. Canon [...]
Day started quiet and relaxing, until Chris Soroko from Long Way Round Andalucia called and invited me to another drive around Andalucia. This time we just took the 4×4. First we went to Cabo de Gata, but we did not take the usual highway through Almeria. Chris seems to like going the long way round. [...]
Saturday was a very interesting day to say the least. In the morning we met with Chris Soroko and his team from Long Way Round Andalucia. They were taking a couple of clients for a little off road motorbike adventure. My friend Chris Marshall and me went as photographers. Chris’s pictures actually end up on [...]
On day three, Sandra and me went to El Ejido to run some errands. El Ejido is a an much older town than Almerimar. We did visit a few places, like the main town square, and visited different shops in the area of the main square. Canon 5D, ISO 200, 1/1250 sec, f/5.6, 24mm [...]
This was a very relaxing day. Spent the day exploring Almerimar. It’s a fairly new Spanish town, situated right on the shores of Mediterranean. I must say that it is absolutely amazing. It is exactly what I’ve been looking forward to. The architecture is a mix of spanish and moorish styles. Which makes for very [...]
October 14th, flying to Spain to see my good friend Chris Marshall. The whole trip there was quite long and tiring. I managed to snap this photo, while flying over Spain. Leica D-LUX 3, ISO 100, 1/320 sec, f/8, 25mm Arrived in Almeria airport in the evening the next day. Had enough time to [...]
I know you are getting tired of seeing Corri on these pages. So now for something a little different. A handsome, rugged, irresistible…. me. Yeah yeah…. I figured that once in a while I should step in front of the camera, then being behind it all the time. I tried a couple of shots with [...]
I’ve been meaning to do this type of a portrait for a very long time. I always liked the way they looked. Almost illustration/comic book style. During our latest photo shoot. I asked Corri to wet her hair and swing her head in front of the camera. I got couple of good shots, but I [...]
This is the continuation of Corri’s photo shoot. I managed to borrow this motorcycle helmet from a friend. Wanted to do something different. I thought the black dress and the motorcycle helmet don’t really go together, which in reality I was aiming for. Here are the results. Canon 5D, ISO 200, 1/200 sec, f/10, [...]
Last week I had another opportunity to work with Corri. To be honest, she is absolutely wonderful to work with. This time I had much better lighting system. I have purchased two stands for strobes and two umbrellas, one reflective, and one white diffuser shoot through. I have to admit the having just that setup, [...]
This morning I left home early, to be able to visit a new lake, before the sunrise. Good thing the sun does not rise at 5am, so waking up wasn’t that big of a problem. The lake is called Devil’s Lake, and situated close to Stony Plain, which in turn is very close to where [...]
Last weekend I had to drive up to Fort McMurray on a business trip. I decided to take my camera with me, thinking that I might have some time to take some interesting photos of the Alberta Oil Sands, and all the heavy equipment there. Unfortunately I did not have time to do anything. I [...]
This morning was particularly beautiful. The night rain left some nice small water puddles on the deck. So while drinking my morning coffee, I grabbed my camera and took a couple of shots. I really like the way the sun was reflecting in those water puddles. I couldn’t help myself, and put the Cokin starburst [...]
Another foray into this miniature business. This is a picture I’ve taken on our trip to Jasper. I was testing my 2x extender with my 400mm zoom lens. We were on top of the Whistler Mountain, when I took this. Not a great photo in itself, but a perfect candidate for a miniaturization. Thoughts? [...]
While following Gregor Rohring’s very interesting blog, I’ve noticed that he made some very cool fake miniature pictures. I was intrigued. So I scoured the net for instructions on how to make these. These type of pictures are fairly easy to make in Adobe Photoshop. I will not go into details here on how to [...]
I was chasing this poor fellow for good 30 min, before he allowed me to take his picture. The background could have been better, but didn’t have much choice. He wasn’t very cooperative to begin with. People in the park were looking at me a bit strange, but then again what am I to do. [...]
This picture was taken when doing the first bikini photo shoot. This is one hell of a beautifully restored piece of machinery. I believe it’s 1939 Ford Cabriolet. Again more uses for the cokin filters. Enjoy! Canon 5D, ISO 200, f/5, 1/400 sec, 60mm
This is the second part of the Alberta Beach sunset trip. Enjoy.
Lots to do this weekend. Still pouring over the wedding photos, and managed to decrease the numbers by almost half. Still it leaves about 700 to go. So I decided to take a break and invite a couple of friends and took a nice drive to Alberta Beach. This is the one the shots that [...]
It did not go as planned. Why? Oh because of the twit behind the camera that’s why. All I can say, is that I need to really learn this “studio” work. Studio being inside, with limited lights. I borrowed friend’s Canon Speedlite 580 strobe, so I could master it with my Speedlite 430. I had [...]
Just a quick note. I’m still around…. Got my feet wet with my first wedding, up to my neck. A very good friend of mine Artur volunteered to help with the pictures. It was great that he did. A tremendous help. Thank you Artur! Between both of us we got approximately over 1300 photos. Now [...]
Can some one please tell me what bird is this. It was raining one day, and I spotted it sitting on my fence. I grabbed my zoom lens and slowly walked outside. He actually let me get pretty close, but I only managed one photo, before he took off. Looks to me that he is [...]
This photo shoot lasted a few months now, and will culminate this saturday, August 30, when I will be photographing their wedding. Yup my first wedding. I decided it would be a good idea to start early, since I never really did anything like that. I mean a wedding is nothing to sneeze at, specially [...]
This photo shoot lasted a few months now, and will culminate this saturday, August 30, when I will be photographing their wedding. Yup my first wedding. I decided it would be a good idea to start early, since I never really did anything like that. I mean a wedding is nothing to sneeze at, specially [...]
Finally this is the last set of challenge in DPC Olympics II. One is “B&W Abstract” and the other is “Road Less Traveled”. For the abstract I had an idea right away. Funny, because when I took the photo, it was what I was feeling at the time. It’s called “day Breaks”. Canon 5D, [...]
So a few days ago, I had my first model photo shoot. I was discussing the next DPC Olympics challenge with a good friend of mine from work, and he suggested that I could take photos of a old Chevy Coupe that my boss has. Why because it’s purple and I mean as purple as [...]
Number 1 again. Our team just shines! Morning/Evening brought us again to the first spot for week 5, giving us another 10 points and widening the gap between us and the dreaded Icelanders even more. Yeah! Week 6 challenges are in voting now, and here is my entry: The Wood-a-Nator Canon 5D, ISO 50, 117 [...]
I have sold my venerable Canon XTi. I thought initially that it would be a great back up camera, and allow me to have more options when on a shoot with out switching lenses. Well it was not so. I was using it less and less, and when taking it along on a trip, I [...]
On the advice of a friend I started looking into the Cokin Creative System of filters. It’s an interesting system, because 1 can fit almost all type of lenses. Cokin makes this available in 4 different flavors for different type of cameras. The P-System will fit most DSLRs with lenses ranging from 48mm up to [...]
So week 3 and week 4 are behind us. We took second place in week 3, but week 4 was pretty dismal. Didn’t score any points. I was a little surprised that my Lawn entry didn’t do better, but then again it was a little risky photo. The good thing is we are still in [...]
So this morning I decided to go back to the creek again. Unfortunately the sky became overcast very quickly, and there was a strong wind making wild ripples on the water. There was really nothing to shoot. So I decided to visit my old farm, which I discovered during winter. It was completely different now. [...]
This weeks challenge for the DPC Olympics II is “Morning” or “Evening”. Finally something that can be done outside. Decided that I will try to wake up early one morning and see if I can find something interesting. While passing on a little bridge on a highway, I saw this little creek, with wonderful morning [...]
The 3rd week challenge for the DPC Olympics is “Lawn” or “Still Life”. Since I don’t really like shooting inside, mostly because I do not have proper lighting equipment nor space, I decided to do “Lawn”. The challenge details say: “Shoot a lawn and be creative”. So I tried to be creative. I had a [...]
So the 2nd week has passed and Team Polska is number 1 again. If you are interested in the results, then click here. There was some grumbling from other teams that the point system favors the wining team. Right now it’s 10 pts for 1st place, 6pts for 2nd, 4 pts for 3rd, 3 pts [...]
So I asked a very good friend of mine, who is an exceptional welder help me with some ideas for the Hot challenge. I’m very grateful for this. It was a pretty amazing show. It would be even nicer to go out to a junk yard of some sorts, but we had to work with [...]
Continuing in the spirit of drinks, I got some dry ice from a local reseller, and decided to play a little. It is the most wonderful stuff. Not only it will cool your drink in a mater of minutes, but it produces some really cool effects. Here are some shots I’ve done. Only one of [...]
I had this idea for the next Olympic challenge of “Hot”. Surprisingly I found it pretty hard to light up. I thought lighter fluid would work….. not a chance. So went back to the tried and true method of Sambuca. It flamed up really nicely. So what are your thoughts, on the “Devil’s Brew”?. Canon [...]

Wow. I must say that Team Polska did pretty good. 1st place, and 10 points! We even beat out the dreaded Icelanders and their killer landscapes. If you are interested in the results, then click here. On the other hand the second week is not going well for me. For some reason people are mistaking [...]
Well so it’s time to submit another picture for the challenges Recipe (Food) or Recipe (Beverage). I tried at first with a Martini glass, and some olives. Canon 5D, ISO 100, 1/4000 sec, f/2.8, 70mm This alone took a lot of shots, since throwing olives at a small glass and hoping to hit the inside [...]
So the DP Challenge Olympics II has started. The first week submissions for the challenges are complete, and I’m again addicted to the little update button on the page, showing the scores. First week challenges were Landscape, and Weathered. I have entered the Weathered challenge with this shot: Canon 5D, ISO 400, 1/1600 sec, f/4, [...]
Found this little guy sitting nice and still on a reed. I was able to snap a few shot before he got scared and took off. Canon 5D, ISO 400, 1/2000 sec, f/5.6, 400mm Canon 5D, ISO 400, 1/2000 sec, f/5.6, 400mm
This was taken a few days ago, while trying to shoot for the DPC Olympics II challenge. It was voted down by the crew, as more of a skyscape than a landscape. Didn’t realize there were differences. I found that adding a human factor to the photo, makes it more interesting. Thoughts? Canon 5D, ISO [...]
This was taken at a local park, close to where I live. I found the juxtaposition of the industrial buildings jutting out of the trees, interesting. Thoughts? Canon 5D, ISO 100, 1/500 sec, f/7.1, 400mm
So I was trying a Canon PowerShot G9 for macros. I was going to do my subjective overview of the camera, but got sidetracked and never finished it. I still might do it, if the time permits. The camera, like all point and shoots, has a specific macro function, that allows for nice close ups. [...]
This is a collection of Pigeon Lake photos. The last two were take quite recently, when Artur and I went to see the moon rise. Unfortunately the cloud cover prevented the moon to show, but the evening wasn’t ruined all together. Canon 5D, ISO 100, 1/500sec, f/9, 17mm The glow in this picture, is the [...]
Well it’s been quiet on the blog front. On the account that I’ve been pretty busy at work, with few trips out of the city, and the DPChallenge Olympics II started a couple of days ago. I have a few pictures that I will be posting. They are from our little outings around the city. [...]
Canon PowerShot G9, ISO 200, 1/200sec, f/4.8, 44.4mm Took this photo while lifting off from Villeneuve airport on a business trip. I didn’t have much time to set the camera settings or composition. Thoughts?
Canon 5D, ISO 250, 1/640 sec, f/10, 17mm This was taken for “2 Person Portrait” challenge. I thought of taking a photo like this for a while now. Tried different settings and places. Unfortunately the first attempt weren’t very good. I figured that the aperture will have to be small. Because of position, I was [...]
Canon 5D, ISO 100, 1/25sec, f/10, 100mm This was taken in my yard, on a peony flower. I guess the bugs like the undeveloped buds, because I can always find some ants just sitting there. Perfect for macros, since they do not move a lot. The problem becomes when there is even a little breeze. [...]
These are the last of the photos from the trip to Whitecourt. Canon 5D, ISO 100, f/8, 1/200sec, 70mm This is the Richfort Bridge. It is the longest wooden train trestle in North America. It’s just too bad that the access to the bridge was rather restricted, by all kinds of fences. This is the [...]
These lovely animals we found on a field by a little country road. I used the first one for a “Cowboy” challenge at DP Challenge. Canon 5D, ISO 320, 1/4000 sec, f/5.6 59mm As you can see, after shooting at the lake in the evening, I forgot to change my ISO back to normal setting [...]
Took this while on our trip to Whitecourt. This is lake Mcleod, situated about 24km north of the city. Artur was setting up, and I though this was a very nice scene with the dark sky and him silhouetted against it. Thoughts? Canon 5D, ISO 100, 1/125sec, f/4, 17mm
I goofed. I have completely forgot. The last shots of the bugs are not mine. Done with my camera, but it wasn’t me pressing the shutter release. Mine came out all out of focus. So I would like to apologize to Artur for pretending that his shots were mine. On my defense I completely forgot [...]
This weekend a friend of mine and me, took a nice trip to Whitecourt Alberta. It’s located about 2 hours north of Edmonton, and there is a great provincial park by a lovely lake Mcleod. Next few posts will be pictures from the trip. Overall the trip was very good, even though the weather did [...]
So I’ve been experimenting a little with zoom. Basically this is done by zooming in or out while the shutter is open. Because you can introduce camera shake, I would suggest taking the photo from a tripod. The effect comes out quite interesting. Like this one that I took in the evening at the lake.
These couple of pictures where taken on an outing around Edmonton. Since it was cloudy and scattered rain fell from time to time, I decided to turn off most of the colors in them. Here is a view of Edmonton and the North Saskatchewan river. The taller buildings in the distance are part of the [...]
I’ve decided to enter another challenge at DPChallenge website. This one was called masks. Unfortunately I didn’t read the description of the challenge carefully enough, specially the statement that states “Find or create a mask, and photograph someone wearing it”. Blasted. I think that is why the scoring isn’t doing well. So here is my [...]
These are some older photos taken at a local garage. They make these little toys over there. When I say toys, I mean drivable toys. It wasn’t easy to take these photos, since the garage was full of these gems, and hard to setup between them. I think these two photos are one of the [...]
Great way to attract Robin’s to your yard, is to cut the grass. The seem to find all kinds of edible things on the ground. Like this little guy, that came visiting: Canon XTI 1/500 sec at f/5.6 ISO 100 400mm I was laying quietly on the deck, and tried not to make any sudden [...]
Another older shot, that I had finally some time to play with.
In the spirit of revisiting old photos, I found these long forgotten shots. Restored, and corrected for your viewing pleasure.
Ah yes spring is here, and bugs are out. Got my macro lens out, and scoured the back yard for bugs. Here are some first attempts.
I thought I would revisit some of the old photos I took. This one is very old, more than a year ago. One of my first shots I took with my DSLR.
Finally had some time to go through some of the older pictures that were never touched. This one I took, while on a little weekend trip to downtown Edmonton.
Took this photo, while in my back yard, just looking up. I thought the clouds were very interesting, and decided to snap a shot or two. Actually it came to about 20, but this one came out the best.
Took this picture while on the trip yesterday. She wasn’t easy to catch, and had to crank up the ISO, to get a good shot with the 100-400 lens. There were not a lot of colors in the original so I though a black and white would look a lot better. Thoughts?
HDR, what is a HDR photo? HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. It is achieved by taking the same photo 3 or more times with varying exposure settings. They can be done by hand, or automatically. Combining the series of photos in software and then applying tone mapping techniques. I read in some magazine the [...]
Found this abandoned farm near the city of Stony Plain, Alberta. Should have marked it on the GPS though, as right now I have no idea where it is.
No this is not Canada. This photo was taken by my wife, while she was in Poland last week. Taken with a little point and shoot camera from a moving car. Too bad it was a jpg, and not a very good resolution. So print wise it won’t do, but on a screen it looks [...]
We did it! We got the silver! Second place behind such a strong team as Icelanders, is a pretty good achievement if I can say so. Third place was taken by team Tropical Islands, pushing the Germans into the fourth spot. To tell the truth, I’m glad it’s over. It’s pretty stressful to come up [...]
It was a horrible weekend. Weather wise. We got dumped on, and I mean really dumped on. The snow started Saturday morning and it’s still snowing, on Monday morning. It hardly let up. Got about 30cm of snow, plus wind and cold. But that is not the object of this post. My lovely wife, agreed [...]
This week is the last week of the DPC Olympics. The challenges were, The Paranormal and Negative Image. Immediately I had an idea for the paranormal challenge and after a few tweaks here and there. I submitted the following photo: I’m very grateful to my wife for sitting in, and having enough patience to sit [...]
Team Polska had a very strong week. This was the highest average score during the whole of the Olympics, but to our surprise, the German team beat us to the second place. Who got the first place this week? Who do you think.. hmmm? The Icelanders of course. So we took the 3rd spot. We [...]
At the advise of a friend and after reading some reviews, I got myself a Fong. Basically it’s a very cool light diffuser for your flash. The design allows for the flash to be dispersed around, giving a nice uniform light around the subject. It’s made out of soft plastic with a lid that snaps [...]
Visited a lovely Junk Yard today with two friends of mine. One could spend days there. Unfortunately the grounds were still wet, and all of us got soaked feet. It’s really a huge place. It was quite amazing to see all the old, very old cars. Here are some pictures, and the rest can be [...]
I came up with this interesting idea for the paranormal shot. I have submitted it to the team, and after couple of minor corrections, it was met with approval. I will not reveal it yet, my friends. It will be on this page soon enough. All I can say….. nah I won’t say a thing. [...]
I was meaning to shoot this old bridge for a long while. It is situated in Edmonton, in Heritage Park, not too far from home. So grabbed the kiddies and their bikes and went to the park. I was a bit surprised that this bridge was so old. According to the date, on one of [...]
OK I would like to apologize. I screwed up the DPC Olympic weeks. I already corrected the previous posts. Week seven was the unsinkable icebergs, and now we are in the last week. Last challenge. Last stretch. Last chance to beat the Icelanders and take the top spot. What is the last challenge? As always [...]
Absolutely amazing results from the Polish team for week 6 of DPChallenge Olympics. Got another 10 points under our belt, which puts us in the second place overall, just 4 points behind Icelanders! Here are our entries for Warm Colors: Bruski – Cala Lillies Budya – Fuzzzzzy AP – Tropicália Cool Color entries: MAK – [...]
Thank you everyone for great comments. I have tried to redo the Iceberg shots. Give them more life, but for some reason could not repeat it. Here are the remixes of Iceberg shots: Don’t know if it’s the composition or the light. I mean they do look ok, but not for a submission. At least [...]
Another challenge is coming to the end, and I need your opinions. The challenges are “Centered Composition” and Homemade Landscape” Here are some examples for “Centered Composition”: Here are “Homemade Landscape”: Thoughts, comments, please?
I thought this would be fairly easy challenge. I mean it’s colors, right? Ha, wrong. Colors are all around, and mostly in combinations of cool and warm. They complement each other. Trying to do a composition of only cool or warm colors is not that easy. I’ve been messing about with candies, mirrors, rum, ice, [...]
I’m really surprised. This is my entry for the Intimacy challenge. It’s not doing as well as I hoped it would. Actually right now it’s doing a lot worse. It’s not even at 5 average. There is a couple of consolations…. there is still a week of voting to go, and so far the comments [...]
So we are half way through and Team Polska is going strong. We took another 2nd place this week. Overall we are still 2nd, only the Icelanders are in our way. I must admit they do have a strong team, and will not be easy to catch. Here are our results: Environmental Portrait MAK – [...]
Last challenges, Blurry Mess and Pollution, were brutal to our team. We didn’t get any points, which meant that we dropped to second place in overall standings. Blurry Mess was especially hard. Here are the results of week number 3: Blurry Mess Budya – Purple Pandemonium Bruski – Ancient Medicine Dudski – Dreams Ablaze Artvet [...]
Had to fly north yesterday to do some work. While on the way there and especially coming back, lucked into some interesting scenery. There were pockets of snow storms passing in different places all over. Again wished for a better camera, but I must say that Leica is doing a pretty good job so far. [...]
We had an opportunity to visit Las Vegas for 4 days with my company. It was a wonderful trip albeit very tiring. One thing I have to say, it’s not a city to take small kids to. There is lots of walking involved if you want to visit all the sites, or you have tons [...]
Well well well. Team Polska got the highest score this week! Currently we are tied for the first place with Iceland. This is very very cool. Good thing that only 4 highest marked pictures count towards the final score, or we would not score so high. Here are links to the team photos. Tilted Challenge: [...]
I think we are really sick of this ugly winter. Last sunday the whole family decided to go to one of our favorite winter retreats. It is called The Muttart Conservatory. It consists of 4 fairly large, pyramid shaped glass houses. Each one is dedicated to a different climate, namely desert, temperate, and tropical. The [...]
So submission time for week 3 challenges is upon us. The challenges were Blurry Mess and Pollution. Our team was comparing Blurry Messes all weak. I must say that it is not as easy as you think. Not only does the picture has to be a blurry mess, but also it has to be interesting. [...]
Today is the final day of submission for the Tilted or Silverware challenge. This marks the second week of the DPC Olympics. Third challenge will be announced tonight. I had few stumbling blocks with this one, as I had a complete mental block to silverware ideas. I went with the tilted part. Here are two [...]
I lied. Ultimately the picture that I posted to the Free Study challenge is this one: I was advised that the Sun Worshippers will not do well in the challenge as the crop made the picture a bit too wide. Apparently people are merciless when voting in the Free Study Challenges. I must say that [...]
The first challenge for the DPC Olympics is almost complete. It will be done tonight at midnight. There were two themes: Color on Color and Black and White in Color. Good thing is that they were repeated challenges, so one could go back to previous one for ideas and inspiration: Color on Color Black and [...]
So the weather was perfect. A little bit of cloud on the horizon, but wispy enough that they did not block the view of the rising moon. The eclipse started around 6:43pm and I had a perfect unblocked view from my backyard. Cleared a foot of snow of the deck, setup my tripod and started [...]
Last night, a good friend of mine and me, went out hunting. It was a promising sunset, with a couple of churches in the area. One church was really abandoned, meaning that there was no regular services being performed, and it had a very small but interesting cemetery. By Canadian standards it was fairly old, [...]
Tomorrow, February 20th is going to be an exciting day. First of there is a total lunar eclipse happening in the evening. It looks like the skies are going to be clear, and I’ll be in my backyard snapping away. The event will start around 6:30pm mountain standard time, and it will continue until about [...]
Yes, it’s been a while again. All I can say is that this winter is getting on my nerves. Non stop freezing temperatures of -27C and below, and blowing winds. This makes it really difficult to go anywhere. Today my friend and me braved the bitterly cold weather, and decided to go out photo-hunting. Here [...]

It’s a good sign, when I leave work and the sun is just setting. Days are getting longer. I would have said that “spring is in the air” but judging by the lovely temperatures we had today spring is not even close. It was -32C with a strong north wind which made it feel like [...]
I saw this building when I was downtown Edmonton, the other day. I thought that entrance arch would make a interesting picture. Although the light was not very good, I managed to stand in front of the building and snap this photo. I would have tried different angles, but I was chased away by the [...]
Wow, it’s been almost three weeks since the last post. I guess time flies when you are having fun… or at least should be having fun. In any case I did not abandon my photographic quest. All through that time I’ve been taking pictures, lots of them. I even took my camera to work, and [...]

This idea has been going around my head for a long while now. I’ve racking my brain on the execution, and today I had an epiphany .I decided to try this with the simplest setting. A cup full of water, sitting on a counter. An eye dropper, tripod, macro lens, and my remote line cord. [...]
Over the holidays I knew I will have some more time to play with photos. Well most of these actually were taken today, on the last of the year 2007. It was a gorgeous day… a bit cold, but sunny and cloudless. Went out to the Elk Island National park. It was really perfect. The [...]
This was an interesting experience. It was -15C and a nice thick fog descended on the streets. I figured it would be perfect time to test out my wide angle lens. So I set out. Unfortunately there are not a lot of places one can stop a car safely on the street, get out, set [...]
It’s been a bit quiet on the photography front. This is supposed to be a quiet time at work, since it is time before the holidays, and everyone is taking it easy. Not it my case. I’ve been going steady at my regular job, and that makes it hard to come up with ideas and [...]
This weekend was an official start of Christmas at our house. Got the christmas tree at a local seller, brought it home, and the whole family decorated it. Loads of fun. So I decided to share some of the christmas cheer with all of you who happen to read this blog. Just click on the [...]
Kids went to bed, wife went shopping, what a guy to do?? I can see flurry of answers to this question, but what I did was grab a camera, found some interesting things/ideas, and off we go. You guessed it, more macros. Also was able to finish my little stamp, which can be seen in [...]
I was thinking about this project for a while now. Actually since I saw Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir amazing photos. So I decided to give it a try. I think I should have used less intersecting objects, like the table and the picture in the background. I will have to experiment with the exposure, because overall it [...]
This is definitely the question. What is DNG? DNG stands for Digital Negative Graphic. This format has been developed by Adobe Inc. in order to minimize RAW image incompatibilities. Camera manufacturers have proprietary formats for their RAW image. Nikon, Canon, Sony, etc. all have their own proprietary way of creating RAW image files in their [...]
Today was a very cold day, somewhere around -20C. While taking a walk I’ve noticed by the side of the house, some frost formations. I think these were generated by steam and heat coming out of our dryer vent. So the first thing to do, was run home, grab the camera, snap on the macro [...]
I always enjoyed looking at macro photos. I found the detail to be quite mesmerizing. Seeing something that close gives a different view of the world. A new perspective, if you will. So my journey to macros, as I like to call them, started with a normal 35mm SLR. Never really had a proper “Macro” [...]
